DANSVILLE,  June 4, 2012:  Jim Snyder, president of the Dansville Area Historical Society has announced the receipt of a GET READY grant to help DAHS and the DAHS Museum begin its strategic planning process.  The grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, will enable DAHS to work with consultant Sally Treanor, recently retired as Senior Director, Administration  and Operations and Grants Coordinator of the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society.

Treanor will meet with DAHS board and community members to provide an overview of the planning process and to begin the steps of developing a strategic plan for the Society to meet its mission of providing programs, exhibits, and information on the history of the Dansville area.

Snyder reports that the GET READY grants are one of a series of grants administered by Museumwise, a statewide membership organization providing resources to help New York’s museums and heritage organizations better serve their communities and meet their institutional missions.

“We are forming a committee to meet this summer with Ms. Treanor.  Anyone in the Dansville community who would like to join this planning process, or who would like to become involved with DAHS is welcome.  They can reach me at 335-8909.  We always welcome new members to help us with the museum and with our programs. “

The Dansville Area Historical Society, a non-profit organization founded in 1961, operates a museum located at 14 Church Street in Dansville.  The museum houses three floors of local  artifacts and archives and is open on the first and third Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
